Wilbur the Woolly is a book about a sheep who doesn’t trust that the shepherd has his best interests at heart.

Wilbur refuses to be shorn because he wants to keep his lovely warm wool all to himself. Some of the other sheep, like Wilbur, don’t really trust in the shepherd’s love. However, the wise sheep have learned that even though they might feel uncomfortable at times the shepherd actually does care for them and always has their best interests at heart.

Wilbur eventually discovers that keeping his wool all to himself actually becomes more of a burden than a blessing. The shepherd does love him after all.

How similar are we sometimes to Wilbur and the other sheep?!

“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by my own.¹” – Jesus.

As a Christian, I need to learn to trust Jesus, my good shepherd, even when it feels uncomfortable or I don’t understand His ways. We all go through moments of discomfort when we have to give up something we want to do, or have, or are faced with the need to deal with something we would rather avoid. When we go through these times we tend to question the goodness, fairness, and love of our God. However, looking back is always 20/20 vision, and often we will look back and clearly see how God has worked things together for the good of those who love Him and that doing things His way worked in our favour. Actually, in hindsight, God’s way is always, always, ALWAYS the best way!

I hope that this new book, Wilbur the Woolly, will encourage you to trust in the good shepherd, to hear His gentle prompts whilst giving you the freedom to choose, and to see His love and willingness to help you grow and be all you were created to be.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand²” – Jesus.

There was a real “Wilbur”?!

P.S. I was amused when after sharing my book with a Kiwi friend I was informed that there was actually a real-life sheep like Wilbur, called Shrek, who became a NZ icon after he escaped being sheared for 6 years! Look him up.
